SIX COMMON AMAZON LISTING MISTAKES

It’s easy to sell on Amazon once you get the hang of it. Before you do get the hang of it though, you might make mistakes now and then. You can minimize the common mistakes you make and grow both your experience, your sales, and cash as much as possible. To begin, let us identify the most common Amazon listing mistakes.

The Six most common mistakes Amazon Sellers make are:

  1. Forgetting to configure Keywords for Amazon
  2. Amazon Listing Price and Quantity Inaccuracies
  3. Taking too long to respond to questions
  4. Including Coupons and Sales in the Product Title
  5. Not knowing the product uniqueness
  6. Using Product Photos that are not for your product

Let’s discuss these mistakes and how you can avoid making them.

1.FORGETTING HOW TO CONFIGURE KEYWORDS IN AMAZON

Amazon uses their special algorithm when it comes to searches. This is manifested through keywords. Keywords are the search terms that customers put into the search bar to find products they want to buy.

For example, you want to list a kettle as your product on Amazon. Leaving a keyword as ‘kettle’ or not putting any keyword and leaving it up to the product description will not get you any customers as that is too generic.

All you have to do is discover unique keywords and use them once, these keywords must be relevant to your products. Going back to the example, you could add the brand, type, and size of the kettle- brushed stainless steel Cuisinart 1.5 litres/50 ounces, Cordless Kettle.

2.INACCURACIES IN AMAZON LISTING PRICES AND QUANTITY

Your potential buyers can ask you detailed questions in the Q&A section on your products page, that may appear in your listing, but some basic areas should never need more queries and Price is one of them.

It’s tempting to put in a low price to gauge buyers’ reactions, but on the internet, word travels fast. If you don’t want to sell your items for rock-bottom prices, either double- and triple-check before posting because it goes live immediately.

Another option you can choose is to use an Amazon repricer to handle the work for you. An Amazon Repricer is a tool that changes your price according to some rules that you give it.

When it comes to quantities, the same applies. Your listing goes live as soon as you hit the proverbial ‘enter’ button, so don’t list inventory you can’t pack and ship. It’s okay to start as a newbie seller with zero inventory just list it as having no products — yet. A word to the wise though is that you should not keep the products at ‘zero inventory’ for long.

3.TAKING TOO LONG TO RESPOND TO QUESTIONS

If consumers are taking the time to post a question on your page, it’s because they’ve narrowed their search into a shortlist that includes you. If you take long to respond to these questions you can lose a sale because customers will lose interest.

On the other hand, if you quickly respond and give satisfactory answers to queries, customers will know that you are a more reliable seller and have an interest in customers.

4.PRODUCT TITLES THAT INCLUDES COUPONS/SALES

A product title is where you provide all the required information regarding your product. The product title is specifically meant for defining what your product is, not for advertising coupons and sales.

Coupons and Sales are awesome things as they can help you convince customers to shop with you. However, there’s a time and a place to use them, and the product title isn’t one of them.

Although it’s very tempting to lure buyers in by telling them about your great details as early as possible if the information is not relevant to the product’s description Amazon will just delete it and you will be back where you started- with no customers.

Define your product title, exclude sales and coupons and as earlier stated, use keywords.

5.NOT KNOWING WHAT SETS YOUR PRODUCT APART

You and other Amazon sellers are selling the same products. If you can not figure out ways of how you’re different from your competitors then you are not ready to convince them to buy your products. When dealing with a non-exclusive product, you need to find creative ways to convince buyers that they will have a better experience if they are getting their products and packaging from you.

This is where you want to push all the perks you’re offering, like, a lower price, bundles or packages, Prime-eligible, specific-demographic-friendly, and so much more.

6.USING PRODUCT PHOTOS OTHER THAN YOUR OWN

Using copyrighted or watermarked images to help describe your product is a sure way to chase your customers away. It will imply to customers that you and your product are fake.

To avoid discouraging customers, you need to take great product photos. Secondly, you can hire an Amazon Product Photography company to help you with that.
